The chemicals added to plastic to make it soft, hard, coloured or fire-resistant are another, because they are not locked in and they leach out.

Plastic harms wildlife by being eaten and by entangling. In people the evidence is still being gathered, but the particles have been found in blood, lungs and organs, and the additives that come with them are known to interfere with hormones. You cannot avoid plastic, but knowing where it comes from and how it gets in is the first step to taking in less of it.
